SCCY is a new gun manufacturer, SCCY Industries was formed in 2003 by Joe Roebuck. Honestly, I did not know how to pronounce their name! It is pronounced Sky, they were going to be SKYY but did not want to be confused with the vodka brand.
SCCY makes four 9mm models, all way under $500. The CPX-1, CPX-2, and DVG-1, DVG-1RD with Red Dot Sights, all 9mm. They have made two other models, the CPX-3 CPX-4 in .380 ACP.
The SCCY pistols are marketed towards the CCW (Concealed Carry Weapon), market, and self-defense. Keeping the prices low is part of making it an available gun to carry.

All of the SCCY pistols are made in one factory in Daytona Beach, Florida. Joe Roebuck, a tool & die maker, and mechanical design engineer looked at how guns were made. He then designed his 9mm CPX with the machining process in mind. Sccy industries also use Roebuck’s tool and die-making skills to stock their own tools and die’s for cutting. By thinking about the manufacturing process as the pistol was designed, he was able to eliminate difficult and expensive machine processes to create a more cost-effective production.
SCCY must be doing something right as they have surpassed a million pistols sold.

Taking a look at the SCCY CPX-1
The CPX-1 is a hammer-fired, polymer-frame double-action-only (DAO) semiautomatic pistol chambered in 9×19mm Parabellum. The hammer is concealed. The CPX-1 is a compact firearm that feeds from a staggered column removable magazine. The magazine holds 10 rounds.

9mm with manual safety
The Pistol is a locked-breech design that uses an aluminum receiver set inside the polymer grip housing and attached with steel pins. It uses a slide and barrel machined from 416 stainless steel. Equipped with a slide stop, the slide locks open when the last round is fired.
The CPX-1has an ambidextrous frame mounted manual safety.
The MSRP is $284.00-$299.99 but you can find them on the open market for $235.

Taking a look at the SCCY CPX-2
SCCY also manufactures a CPX-1 variant called the CPX-2. The CPX-2 eliminates the external manual safety found on the CPX-1. Like the CPX-1, the CPX-2 relies on the double-action-only (DAO) trigger pull and requires 8.5 to 9 pounds of pressure, to help prevent unintentional discharge. A firing pin spring and low-mass hammer are designed to purportedly prevent discharge if the handgun is dropped.
The MSRP is $269.99 but you can find them again for less, $199.99

Taking a Look at the SCCY DVG-1 and DGV-1 RD
The newest offering from SCCY is the DVG, out in 2020.
The SCCY DGV-1 9mm comes in two variations. The RD stands for the red dot, and this pistol has a mounting plate for a red dot scope built-in. The SCCY DVG-1 RD will have a Crimson Trace Sight. Adding the factory-installed sight will increase the price of the pistol by at least $100.
SCCY has chosen to go with no external safety switch on the DGV. This goes in line with their purpose as a concealed carry gun, hard pull, but ready to go every time you draw.
The trigger pull has been reduced in the DVG, it is still double action only, but the draw weight is 5.5 lbs.

Overall, would I buy a SCCY
I really want to shoot a SCCY first. The trigger is the biggest complaint on the CPX. The DVG has a very different design on the trigger, straight not curved, and the pull is significantly lighter. But I would still like to shoot either one first. Also on the DVG, a red dot type sight needs a battery, which is a point of failure.
A couple of things go to the plus side for SCCY. Made in the U.S of A, lifetime warranty, and that low, low price! I don’t mind the polymer grips but would never go for a white one.
Final word for 2021: 9mm pistols are still flying off the shelves as soon as they are stocked and if I was looking for a 9mm and a SCCY came up I might just snap one up.
